About Me

Nelson Shapes are individually made surfboards, built by hand from a small workshop on the North Norfolk coast.

I handle every stage of the process myself; designing, shaping, glassing and sanding each board. I started shaping my own boards a few years ago during a period living in Wales, and was lucky enough to have Sam de Feu at SDF surfboards on the Gower offer to help me work on my designs and building skills. Since then, Nelson Shapes has grown steadily and organically through word of mouth, and the feedback I’ve had from the people I’ve made boards for has been really positive.

In my experience, having a good relationship between surfer and shaper produces the greatest surfboards. Nelson Shapes is about making boards of the highest quality, which give a surfer the best experience from their time in the water, no matter what kind of surfing they want to do. I want to celebrate the artistry and craft involved in building a surfboard, something which is increasingly being lost in an industry which is focusing more and more on machine cut blanks and mass production overseas. A Nelson surfboard isn’t just any surfboard, it is your surfboard, built with your exact requirements in mind.

I have a few models here on the site, but if you have an idea of a board you would like or think would work for you then by all means get in touch.
